The Cure to Cystic Fibrosis

If you haven’t read my book you won’t know that my story is one of significant heath challenges most people never have to contend, or at least maybe not until they are much older. But from the time I was a child I was taught by ignorant, self-hating parents and society that health problems are rooted in failure to diet and exercise sufficiently, and I believed this even though I dieted and exercised all the time, being captain of my swimming team and even training competitively after high school in addition to dedicated gym workouts, bootcamps, and behaviors like intermittent fasting or not eating breakfast in order to cut back on calories.

But even as I entered my thirties it never once occurred to me that the fatigue and exhaustion that constantly brought me down was not from a lack of effort or willpower, but that something was actually very wrong. In my early 30s my health took a turn for the worst, and doctor after doctor failed to diagnose anything, even after a days long fit when I could not stop coughing and had to go to the emergency room. Finally at the age of 34 a doctor found nodules (tumors) on my thyroid, the largest of which was on the thyroid isthmus which is typically a 100% chance of cancer. Unfortunately my life fell apart and I lost my health insurance, but through some serendipitous luck as told in my book, Fuck Portion Control, I made a significant recovery and continued working on my health.

In 2020, shortly after turning 40, while writing and researching the role of opportunistic microbial producers of ammonia and its effects on our health I finally learned my symptoms like chronic sweating, chronic coughing, immune dysfunction, poor libido, and increased risk of cancer and diabetes which I’d suffered all my adult life was actually the condition of cystic fibrosis. This new information helped me further understand what was going wrong with my body, but as I began to do more research I soon realized that it was a highly misunderstood condition, commonly and incorrectly believed to be a genetic disorder only 2/3 of people with cystic fibrosis actually have the genetic markers supposedly responsible, with a ridiculous 2,000 other supposed mutations which instead impugns the research community as completely unserious. Doctors and geneticists generally don’t fully understand genetics anyway, but I was mostly surprised when, studying something completely unrelated, I inadvertently came across a study which showed that Trichomonas parasites also actively inhibit the CFTR channel (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) which is the protein at issue in the condition of cystic fibrosis. Considering that Trichomonas are a widespread pathogen and specialize in colonization of the mucosal epithelia this suggested that cystic fibrosis is actually a communicable disease, not a genetic one. Trichomonas vaginalis, is in fact the MOST widespread sexually transmitted disease in the world, even though most of you reading this article will never have even heard of it. The fact that widespread, under-treated, sexually transmitted parasites (Trichomonas is NOT just one species) shut down the CFTR channel in order to perpetuate their colonization of the very organs which are damaged in cystic fibrosis (lungs, pancreas, gut, liver, testicles, etc.) indicates one of the most consequential failures of modern medicine in correctly recognizing the etiology of disease, as the tradition of blaming heredity which so commonly corrupts medical practice and research prejudiced the use of unsupported positions of conditions like cystic fibrosis being a disease of genetics, which it is not. Unlike the commonly accepted explanation, the real etiology of cystic fibrosis is both simple and sufficient, that rather than relying on an absurd and vague premise of countless mutations for a disease that has such a low chance of even being passed genetically from generation to generation (besides the high morality rate, 98% of all males with cystic fibrosis are infertile), it is instead a communicable disease which occurs when children are exposed to adults with untreated Trichomonas parasites.

While there are antiparasitics widely used to treat Trichomonas, these medications also do not prevent reinfection, and especially since Trichomonas are so common in our environment their colonization is primarily promoted by diets, dietary behaviors, and the environment which impairs resistance. Children are normally far more resistant to Trichomonas colonization since these parasites are primarily after our sex hormones which they use for their own reproduction, but diets, microbes, and dietary behavior are also heritable, and parents which have poor diets lacking in protective dietary nutrients required for a competent immune system and resistance to such parasitism pass those insufficient diets and dietary behaviors to their children thus making their children more vulnerable to colonization by Trichomonas as children and thus causing cystic fibrosis. I was raised in a Mormon family, a religion which specifically forbids the consumption of drinks like coffee, tea, and wine, which are in fact full of highly protective polyphenols, especially tannins which actually help protect our body from colonization by lots of different types of pathogens. Mormons also frequently engage in ‘fasting,’ and I was made to do that even as a child, and fasting is actually very harmful to the body, causing massive catabolic stress as the body consumes its own lean muscle tissue to release useable sugars and amino acids to prevent the body from dying. Withholding food also withholds nutrients we require to resist pathogens, so people (especially children) who consume low-polyphenol diets such as is common to industrialized food systems, dieting behaviors like fasting which stress the immune system, and even avoid typically therapeutic dietary factors like tea are unable to resist colonization by opportunistic pathogens like Trichomonas.

Trichomonas is also often asymptomatic, and commonly only identified and treated in women even though males are just as frequently infected (who do you think gives women the disease?), so males are often chronic carriers of Trichomonas. What’s worse is that parasites are highly talented at impairing the immune system, and then enable secondary colonization with other opportunistic microbes that cause other symptoms such as recurring yeast infections, urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, brain fog, reduced immunity, poor libido, etc. In fact, chronic colonization by Trichomonas of mucosal and glandular organs like the breasts, lungs, prostate, cervix, testicles, etc., also causes cancer of those organs as discussed in Fuck Portion Control in the chapters on cancer and immunity, which is exactly why those with cystic fibrosis have increased risk of cancer.

Since cystic fibrosis is caused by a protist parasite we must then directly treat this parasite. While antiparasitic medications can be useful (and might be very useful in anyone with very advanced disease), antiparasitic medications also have significant side effects. But the primary problem with such medications is that they do not protect against reinfection, and it is the absence of innate resistance to Trichomonas protists which is thus the primary problem of cystic fibrosis, and since Trichomonas is a common parasite that colonizes most adults (every adult over the age of 35 very likely has at least one type of Trichomonas) it is extremely widespread in the environment and impossible to avoid or eradicate.

The chapter on immunity in Fuck Portion Control is required reading for a full recovery from cystic fibrosis, because there are very important immune factors like iodine, cyanide, copper, and vitamin C which must be part of the diet for a full recovery (simply taking those WILL NOT provide benefit because they must be achieved through the methods discussed in those chapters). But the primary anti-parasitic factor required for recovery from cystic fibrosis and eradication of Trichomonas is from the element lithium, which has been shown in studies to paralyze parasites, and this helps the immune system eradicate them since parasites are exceptionally talented at inhibiting the immune system. But I have also made a heretofore unknown discovery that lithium’s benefit to our health comes from its relationship to light, and the emission spectrum of lithium. It is well known that red light therapy can have many positive effects on the body, very specifically in the commonly discussed wavelength of 670 nm, but for some reason until now nobody has ever noticed that lithium’s primary emission spectrum (the range of light absorbed and emitted by an element) is also exactly 670 nm, with a smaller emission spike at 610 nm (which is also another range known to be helpful). Lithium thusly mediates the health benefits of red light exposure, and this mechanism is in part from directing light energy into the mitochondrial electron transport chain to help produce ATP, our primary energy molecule. In the case of parasites like Trichomonas, however, they are not evolved to benefit from light exposure, and when they absorb lithium and are also exposed to light at the same time this this emission by lithium is very likely to cause them lethal irradiative stress, and not only to paralyze them as the inert lithium is known to do. Over the years of my recovery lithium has always had obvious and profound benefits and has been recommended in my book since it was first published in 2018. But I often took lithium at night before bed, and after discovering this relationship of lithium to the therapeutic spectrum of red light then tried taking substantive doses immediately before exposure to sunlight or other light therapy, and it instead cured many of my symptoms of cystic fibrosis.

Immediately before writing this article I coughed up a large amount of phlegm, and it might sound strange to anyone unfamiliar with cystic fibrosis, but for my entire adult life (possibly earlier too) I have always had a dry, unproductive cough (productive means producing phlegm), which always made it seem like I could never really get the shit out of my lungs that needed to be expelled. Various other immune factors like copper and silicon discussed in my book had also improved other mucosal function such as causing mucus in my nasal passages to become wetter and to resolve the chronic post-nasal-drip I had for 20 years. One of the problems with cystic fibrosis in males is the absence of the vas deferens which transport sperm to the prostate, which fails to develop properly during gestation, and this obviously will not cure symptoms of cystic fibrosis such as that, but what it does do is resolve the presence of the Trichomonas parasites which are the factor inhibiting normal mucosal function to then improve immunity, digestion, the pancreas, gut health, and lung function.

So, the cure to cystic fibrosis is essentially taking about 5-10 mg dose of lithium daily such as from lithium aspartate or lithium carbonate, mixed into juice or tea and NOT just popping a pill, (there are other forms but these are best and safest), and following that dosage with light exposure such as going out in the sun or using a very bright light or red light device. This therapy is very rapid and can produce obvious and profound improvements within days, and caused the tightness and dryness in my lungs to improve greatly in just two days. But because this condition involves an adaptable and virulent pathogen it is required that therapy continue even after improvements are made, in order to prevent recolonization and regeneration of populations of Trichomonas, since parasites likely leave behind eggs and other strategies adapted to maintain colonization even in conditions which are unfavorable to them. Even brief light exposure can be therapeutic, but it should be as long as possible (a minimum of 1 hour sun exposure), without getting sunburned, and I even combined sun exposure with artificial light from a red-light device after getting sun each day for more profound progress in recovery. Eating high lithium foods like leafy greens, legumes, and fruit outside under the sun would also achieve this function if access to supplemental lithium is not possible.

What this therapy really does is relieve the inhibitory effects of Trichomonas also on digestion and absorption of requisite nutrition like of sodium, chloride, potassium, carotene, vitamin K, and dietary fats that are normally impaired in those with cystic fibrosis, so the greatest improvements will occur as this practice is continued and the body begins to finally digest and absorb these nutrients as it has not previously been able. This obviously requires a healthy diet in the first place, since the resumption of nutrient absorption doesn’t matter if the diet is not nutritive in the first place, and the abundant consumption especially of fruits and vegetables at every meal should be a priority during this time, without exception. Because the lungs are very deep in the body light does not reach them quite as easily as other parts of the body, so it can potentially take some time to make a full recovery, especially in larger individuals, since the lungs are one of the primary sites of dysfunction. Sunlight is very bright, however, so getting daily sun exposure during the late spring and into summer and fall while dosed with lithium should be very advantageous. As discussed in Fuck Portion Control, the bioavailability of lithium is also highly misunderstood and the exceptionally high doses common to psychological therapy are potentially dangerous, and no more than 5-10 mg depending on body size should be required.

This article is simply a general outline for discussing the foundation of a cure to cystic fibrosis, and discussing everything in this article that is required for a full recovery would be far too long and complex, which is instead already written in my book, Fuck Portion Control. and the chapters on gut health, parasitism, vitamin D, immunity, thyroid, and hormones are also required reading. Young people especially will recover quite if they simply take lithium daily and follow it with sun exposure and a healthy diet, but a more rapid and complete recovery will occur with greater knowledge such as what is discussed in my book.
